KelAug issue 5
Review by Dave...
It's out again, the latest offering from the KelAug team and, as ever it's got
plenty for all to read....and some bit's you don't!.
KelAug is, for the uninitiated, a diskmag based around the traditional
diskzine with the novelty of having a 'user base' with adverts from both
readers and club members alike.
INTRO:
Nothings changed intro wise, it's still the fade in fade out text which looks
fine.
SHELL:
The much used [and yes, by ST+ included, Mr.Skillin] text scrolling menu is
the order of the day, this makes for an easy to use menu...
Graphics for the shell come courtesy of a space suited blokie covering one
half of the screen thus leaving plenty of room for the menu text. Still,
there's no mouse option as yet, something I hope to see catered for in future
issue's of KelAug.
DISPLAYER:
A non-descript, but functional displayer scrolls you trough the text at a fair
old rate of knots, this has to be good news for the speed readers out there.
Minimal options still exists from within the help screen, nothing fancy but
again, enough to get you on your way.
ARTICLES:
Without ruining your enjoyment all I'll say is that a couple of notable
articles stand out, the first being an obvious grumble at my review of ST
Highway, courtesy of Mr.Dave Skillin [see my Editorial for more details], the
second is the article regarding Princess Diana's death, a very truthful, if,
over the top look at the media and Diana's funeral.
OVERALL:
I found it rather disconcerting however to find that a number of articles
didn't simply refuse to load but instead crashed the computer, I scanned the
disk for errors and found none however, the problem persisted.
The other slightly irritating feature was the constant background pallete
changing whilst moving between shell and displayer, one moment black and the
next moment white...maybe it's a feature designed to let you know things are
progressing as loading and unloading is done, I'm not sure, it doesn't matter,
I personally found it not to my likeing.
THE NUMBERS:
INTRO - 60% - Nothing fancy...but nice.
SHELL - 72% - Still needs a little work, especially a mouse.
DISPLAYER - 63% - A little tired by today's standards but functional.
ARTICLES - 84% - Not loads...but enough to keep you reading for a while.
READER BASE - 93% - Something for everyone.
OVERALL - 79% - Still some loose ends to tidy up but apart from that another
competent effort by the KelAug team.
